The Kitemark is a product or service certification mark awarded by the British Standards Institute (BSI) that shows it has been independently tested and audited to ensure it meets quality and safety standards. It provides third party approval that a service/product consistently meets the requirements of appropriate standards. As such, the manufacturer must pay for this service and BSI undertakes the testing and awards the license to use the Kitemark.
The Kitemark is not a legal requirement in order to be able to sell goods on the European market; however, it is an accepted mark of quality. Some organisations may require products to hold a Kitemark as a mandatory requirement.
