Labelling

Product labelling is an important aspect and textile products must be labelled in accordance with the regulations of the market place within which they intend to be sold.

New Regulations on Textile Labelling came into force on May 8th 2012.

The Trading Standards Institute offer a guide for business on Textile Labelling.

The UK Fashion and Textiles Association (UKFT) have advice on labelling Rules and Regulations. This includes information on Fibre Content, Country of Origin and Care Labelling.

Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 of the European Parliament. Textile fibre names and related labelling and marking of the fibre composition of textile products, repealing council directive 73/44/EEC and Directives 96/73/EC and 2008/121/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) provide Guidance on the Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regualtions 2012 which is a guide to the EU legislation and is intended to be used alongside it.

The Home Laundering Consultative Council (HLCC) provide services around the care labelling of products.

Consumer Claims Directive 2005/29/EC concerns unfair business to consumer commercial practises in the EU market.
